3D printing fights Corona: providing Spain with desperately needed face shields

Within Europe, the corona pandemic has particularly affected Spain and the healthcare system was abruptly confronted with unprecedented problems. Besides caring for patients, it was imperative to adequately protect local medical personnel against infection with the pathogen SARS-CoV-2 – a major challenge since not enough protective equipment was available ad-hoc as supply chains were interrupted and sources of supply had temporarily dried up.

[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2825″ img_size=”1000 x 750″][vc_column_text]In response to an appeal by the Spanish Airbus site in Getafe, the aircraft manufacturer launched a campaign to equip the clinical teams directly exposed to the virus with 3D-printed face shields. A cross-border cooperation of numerous companies evolved, in which our network also participated. MGA addressed the urgent appeal to its community – the echo was prompt and of immense quantity: numerous packages with face shields arrived at the Airbus plant in Stade from all over Germany.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2827″ img_size=”600 x 800″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The shipment to Getafe in Spain was carried out by DB Schenker, where the Airbus colleagues handed them over to the military and the authorities.
