Welf-Guntram Drossel

Member of the Board

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Welf-Guntram Drossel studied information technology / acoustics at the TUD Dresden University of Technology and obtained his doctorate in the field of simulation of forming processes in 1998 at the Institute for Metal Forming at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. At the Chemnitz University of Technology he gained a teaching position in Machine Tools – Mechatronics in 2004 and was appointed to the full professorship of Adaptronics and Functional Lightweight Design in 2014. He is Director of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU since October 2014, concentrating his research on active materials, additive manufacturing, adaptronic components, biomechatronic, technologies for functional integration, acoustics, hydrogen value chains (production of bipolar plate, fuel cell, and electrolyser) as well as adaptive process chains. Professor Drossel is a Corporate Member of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), Member of the Review Board 4.11 Production Technology (4.11-03 Joining and Separation Technology) at Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and Scientific Assessor of the Board of the European Research Association for Sheet Metal Working. He is also consultant for several scientific institutions as well as the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
