Founding landscape: current mga projects

European, German, International: there are many founding initiatives suitable for AM and our network is currently applying for a few of them.
mga is currently participating in several national and European funding initiatives that support innovation, sustainability, digitalization, and the transformation of industrial value chains. Together with strong research and industry partners, we are preparing and contributing to projects that aim to strengthen AM technologies, lightweight design, circular materials, and AI-driven production processes.
The current applications cover four major funding programmes:
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the European Union’s key research and innovation funding programme. It supports collaborative projects that address technological, environmental, and societal challenges across Europe. The programme focuses strongly on sustainability, digital transformation, industrial competitiveness, and climate-neutral technologies.
Project: PHA4MOBILITY – Advanced Circular PHA Materials for Advanced Manufacturing in Railway Applications
The PHA4MOBILITY project focuses on the development of advanced circular PHA materials for manufacturing applications in the railway sector. The initiative aims to improve sustainability and resource efficiency by introducing innovative bio-based materials into advanced industrial production.
Project partner:
inspire
Material Neutral (MANTRA)
Material Neutral (MANTRA) promotes innovative material technologies and cross-sector collaboration to accelerate sustainable industrial transformation. The initiative supports research and development activities related to recyclable materials, circular economy concepts, and resource-efficient production.
Project: ReForM (Recyclable Fiber-reinforced Metamaterial)
ReForM focuses on the development of recyclable fiber-reinforced metamaterials for future lightweight applications especially for structural rail parts. The project combines expertise from industry and research institutions to create innovative material solutions with improved recyclability and performance.
Project partners:
Deutsche Bahn, CTC (an Airbus Company), TU München, Helmut-Schmidt-Universität, Fraunhofer IAPT, Fraunhofer IFAM
Regional Transformation Networks and Transformation Hubs for Strengthening the Competitiveness of the Automotive and Supplier Industry
Regional Transformation Networks and Transformation Hubs for Strengthening the Competitiveness of the Automotive and Supplier Industry aims to strengthen competitiveness through innovation, lightweight technologies, digitalization, sustainable manufacturing, and cross-sector cooperation.
Project: ReLeF (transformation hub “Resource-efficient lightweight and manufacturing technologies for new business areas of the automotive and supplier industries”)
ReLeF supports SMEs in the automotive and supplier industry in transitioning toward resource-efficient and climate-friendly products and production processes by facilitating the transfer of innovative lightweight, additive, and hybrid manufacturing technologies into industrial practice.
Project partners:
Bayern Innovativ, Composites United, TU Dresden
Programme of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR)
BMFTR supports forward-looking research and industrial innovation projects in Germany. The focus lies on strengthening technological leadership, digitalization, AI applications, and sustainable production systems.
Project: PhysixAI (Multi-physics-informed AI Models for the Production Process)
PhysixAI develops AI-supported models for manufacturing processes by combining physics-based simulations with artificial intelligence approaches. The project aims to improve process understanding, efficiency, and quality in advanced industrial production environments.
Project partners:
InfAI, Cirp, TU Chemnitz
These projects underline our commitment to sustainable materials, advanced manufacturing technologies, digital transformation, and the future competitiveness of European industry.
